You Can't Please Every One

This is a story about an old man and his grandson, who lived in a cabin up in the woods, and their old mule.

One day, early in the morning, they decided to go into to town.

The old man and the young boy started to walk the mule into town and they came across some men standing on a porch drinking their morning coffee. The men saw them walk by and one said, “There goes two of the most stupidest people I’ve ever seen in my life!” “They are both walking, leading that mule into town, when at least one of them could be riding!” The old man didn’t want to be considered stupid, so he go up on the mule and the little boy walked beside them.

Then, they came to a church where some people were just leaving and one of the ladies said, “My heavens, I have never seen such a cruel old man in all of my life!” “There he is riding that mule and letting that poor little boy walk his feet off to the bone!” The old man didn’t want to be considered cruel so he got down and put the little boy up on the mule.

A little further someone yells out, “Look at that mean little boy!” “There he is young and healthy, making that poor old man walk, he ought to be ashamed of himself!” The old man didn’t want the boy to be considered mean, so he hopped up behind the boy and they began to ride double.

Soon, they met an old lady who said, “I have never seen anything so terrible in my life!” “There they are, the two of them riding on one mule, don’t they know that they’re going to hurt that mule!” The old man did not want to be considered terrible, so he and the boy got down from the mule, and they began to walk again.

And, so it goes.

But it’s all right now, I learned my lesson well.

You Don’t Get Old

From what I have heard a number of older people say, I have concluded that you don’t get old. You just wake up one day and you are old.

TaxACT or TurboTax?

It is my opinion that TaxACT and TurboTax are both excellent income tax preparation software. I have personally used both of them. Check them out and make your own decision.

Some Pet Peeves

Fast food restaurant untrained young workers (I know!, I know I shouldn’t even be going there!).
Noisy TV commercials.
People who call me “young man.”
Banks – always merging. My bank has had four or five names.
Mortgage companies and their accomplices on Wall Street.
Clerks who say “there you go, Etc” instead of “thank you.”
Noisy little cars.
Incompetent real estate agents.

The Mass. Mess.

What went wrong with the Demos? Either the voters did not like the candidate or they do not like the present course of the party. If they didn’t like the candidate, the Demos should have done a better job in their selection. If they do not like the direction(s) the party is presently taking, then something has to change.

Personally, I think some sort of universal health care is a good idea. I also believe that the attempts to stimulate the economy are a valiant effort (even though I also think that the business cycle will largely follow it’s own course). But, if the voting majority thinks otherwise, the Demos are in trouble. That being said, it appears that enough has been said.

The election is over.

President Obama Should Study President Truman

In his reelection campaign, Truman developed an energetic style, usually speaking from notes rather than from a prepared speech. President Obama’s style seems a bit halting and somewhat irritating to some people. Of course, a little luck also helps. The business cycle will probably be a large determining factor in the next presidential election. If the economy gets going and employment improves enough, Obama has a shot a reelection.

What is Work?

Work is something that you would not do if you did not get paid for doing it. So, if you are looking forward to going to “work”, you are not working! You are simply getting paid for doing something that you like to do. Wouldn’t it be great if we could all have a “job” where we didn’t have to “work!”

All retired people should look for a “job” like this!

The Big News

How does “Jay Leno vs. Conan O’Brien” rate being a top news story alongside the earthquake in Haiti and the election in Massachusetts?
